Adult Literacy and Education

Adult Literacy1Miss. Labonya Prova Halder worked in CDC from 2000 till 2011 as short course coordinator. Drawing on her vast experience as an educator she has developed an adult literacy training manual (‘Amio Prote Pari,’ I can read) which will help the participants to gain the skill of reading and writing and also the knowledge of the basic teachings of the Bible.

CDC has also started from January 2006 a pilot project of six adult literacy centers using this manual with very encouraging response. The book has now published in two versions (Common Bangla and Musalmani Bangla) and are widely used in various places in Bangladesh.

Until 2013 CDC has completed adult literacy activities in 80 centers where 1204 learners have completed this course. Now they are able to read and write. CDC is running 15 adult literacy centers in 9 districts having 15 learners in each center at the moment.

Adult-literacyCDC provides two days basic training about how to use this book before implementation of the book in the field level. Mostly our former cdc graduates are involved in this great work beside their own work.

Many encouraging reports are there, specially from women. When they realized they can now read and write they are happy and have developed self-esteem and confidence.
